Yes No. Thank you! Any more feedback? The more you tell us the more we can help. Can you help us improve? Resolved my issue. Clear instructions. Is necessary have old Dell driver Touchpad works, but no scroll in system, Metro apps, Edge.
Then download new Dell driver No uninstall old Dell driver!!! Only install new driver from Device manager, manually put from Disk.
After reboot, configure Dell touchpad. Still no scroll only one finger, but perfectly scroll with two fingers. After many months it works! Thanks for this webpage. I was using synaptics version So I installed synaptics version Just tested with XPS M and it is non of the above drivers. Anyway it works fine with all the scrolls etc for Windows 7 See "Mouse" under control panel for settings.
Got feedback that version Nope, re-tried it just for you, and no joy. The one listed above is the only one I can get to work.
If you do find a more up to date one which will work please let me know. As I state at the top this is a list of drivers and I do not have every single Dell model to test with. No-ones left feedback for that model yet. The only driver I've found that restores scroll functionality is "Synaptics TouchPad, v. Still not able to open the Synaptics "Dell TouchPad Settings" utility to fine-tune it, but I can finally scroll again!
You can download R For Studio , successfully installed latest Synaptics v This worked great even though it warned that it was not listed as compatible due to the different Dell-specific Device ID. This gave me the best functionality including two-fingered tapping compared to previous versions. Confident it should work too for Studio , possibly for other Studio laptops, and hopefully for other Dell Synaptics models. So what you need to do is: 1.
Disable PTP drivers 2. Install generic drivers force way. Disabling PTP drivers: Go to device manager and locate "Human interface devices" node node means the little arrow which expands. Locate "HID-compliant touch pad" item and disable it. PTP is dead. Select "Update driver" from context menu and make it hard way: "Browse my PC" ´┐Ż "Let me pick it myself" ´┐Ż "Have disk" ´┐Ż point to folder where you have unpacked downloaded driver into x64 subfolder, to be precise.
Windows will say that driver is not compatible. That's a lie. Press Yes. You're on generic driver now. During phase 2 Windows may complain about missing digital signature at driver's package Synaptics' fault. There are 2 ways to circumvent it: 1. Disable driver signature enforcement just google this whole phrase. This is easy but potentially creates security risk as from now any unsigned driver can be installed to the system. Sign it with a valid certificate if you have one also requires installed WDK.
I did mine by signing. From my experience, precision of generic driver is inferior to PTP, but it's free of PTP bugs and offers all extended features Synaptics has to offer. Or maybe it just requires tweaking it has so many parameters.
Along with a few other settings, you'll see the three mouse-speed values in the right panel. Mouse-Speed is a multiplier that is set from 0 always run at the basic speed to 2 multiply the calculated speed by 4. MouseThreshold1 indicates the number of pixels you must move the mouse between interrupts to automatically double the basic speed unless MouseSpeed is not set to 0.
By default, MouseThreshold1 ranges from 0 do not introduce speed-doubling to 10 pixels, but you can set its value to higher than 10 if you like. Setting the value closer to 1 makes Windows introduce speed-doubling sooner, which causes your pointer to pick up speed.
The last of the three pointer values, MouseThreshold2, behaves like MouseThreshold1 except that it causes Windows to again double the mouse's speed. Looks like you've spent alot of work into resolving your issue. Did you do this for the XPS 13 ? Thank you for your information. I could install synaptics driver to dell inspiron 2in1 and , utility softwares worked perfectly newtonpad , strokes plus , two-finger-scroll.
Great glad it helped! I added your note to the list. I am assuming version I have two and three-finger swiping back finally! Thank you for your hard work putting this together. I was beating this up with the reference drivers and getting nowhere. I hadn't thought to scour Dell for their various versions. Inspiron 15 N None of the v19s worked with self install.
Did not bother trying earlier versions. BTW, this page is broken on Chrome. It loads over and over and over´┐Ż until you hit the stop button at the right time. Works on Firefox. Hi, First of all, great guide, thank you. Tried the Alps Alps touchpad, v7. It will be an Alps Touchpad. Dell listed version 8. You can try this with Windows 10 also. You may also try the latest Alps Touchpad driver following the instructions on this page if you do let me know how it works out for you.
The driver Its shitty because the functional drivers dell provides works with windows 8. What doesnt work in What about Its got a Synaptics Touchpad, Dell list I would try with the latest Synaptics Driver first and if it doesn't work as expected try Can't be installed out of the box, but with the device manager procedure above it finally worked with Windows 10 Thank you for the hint´┐Ż.
Thanks for reporting your findings. I've added it to the list. I expect it will be similar for the Vostro also. This worked great for me!
I have a Dell Inspiron with Windows 10 installed. I recently lost touch scroll capabilities, so I installed the latest Synaptics driver, and my touch pad works fine now. Thanks so much for this guide. Manually updating the driver to the Synaptics What is the model of Dell and the operating system. If its not showing at all?
Does it work in the BIOS setup? It seems much better than the previous drivers, so well worth updating. Thanks was wondering how the Touchpad fared with that model with Windows I only used that system for a little while near the release of Windows 8.
This device cannot start. Code 10 The specified request is not a valid operation for the target device. Right click it and select uninstall it in the Device Manager´┐Ż You can double click the. If the driver still doesn't work try the earlier versions next latest version of the Synaptics Touchpad. Biren this is one of the things which needs to be tested specifically for each model´┐Ż If your Touchpad works well and shows as Dell Touchpad in the Device manager then you definitely have the correct driver and since both are the same version its likely the same driver.
The main issue is that many Dell drivers weren't installing correctly which is why I instructed to force install the driver which works in most cases. Windows 10 Update sometimes automatically installs drivers in the background´┐Ż its possible that it installed the Touchpad driver by itself.
At the moment there is no point in performing a clean install again´┐Ż Installing some drivers twice won't influence the performance much. Just get it up and running so everything works. Then use it as is for a couple of weeks´┐Ż. On the 2nd of August Windows 10 RS1 will be out so that would be a far better convenient time to clean install with up to date installation media. Thanks for this excellent site. Re-purposed work laptop, from , I think it came with Win7.
I upgraded to Win The Win 10 installation picked 8. Jerky movement, freezes then big jumps, etc. I tried several drivers, 8.
The solution for the Dell Latitude E was 8. Every time i was installing a new driver, i ensured that the previous one was uninstalled fully and perfectly, bringing back the PS2 driver version of , as included in windows 10 originally. Many thanks. I followed your article and installed Synaptics Touchpad driver Thanks again.
Great, strange that it only didn't work before in the Edge Browser´┐Ż Thanks for confirming that this version works best for you. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! Silly thing that costs so much time´┐Ż Dell Vostro v with Synaptics on board. Tried many options but Got two finger scroll back! Weird thing is, this scroll does not work in OS windows like mouse options. Other program windows browsers, notepad scroll correctly. Installed as Dell Touchpad, not as a Synaptics device, so in mouse options there is Dell Touchpad tab opening Dell Touchpad options, not the Synaptics one.
Thank you so much´┐Żthe instructions were very organised.. I m happy Thanx a lot. I really dont know What to do anymore. I have a Inspiron n which is Alps and I've tried nearly all the drivers. I have stop using it for a while for it to work again. Restarting it doesnt work either. It sounds more like a hardware fault. Yeah I've done it. I dont know if thats the problem´┐Ż I'll try again. I noticed it stops working when I'm using the computer for a long time and its hot, but I'm completely convinced if its actually hardware because this didint happen before windows Dell Vostro v Generic Synaptics Touchpad ´┐Ż I have a Dell LX laptop and, as recommended above, Synaptics driver version You can leave feedback to Microsoft in their Windows Feedback App.
Anyone find a driver to work with 64 bit Windows 10 and the Synaptics Touchpad for m dell xps. I tried those drivers and it made the mouse functions glitchy and clicking didn't work correctly and still no scrolling functions. Lx Windows 10 x64 here. Multitouch does not work on 2. Left click and right click work on 3.
I have Dell Inspiron N Laptop. Dell has not tasted this for Windows 10, however, I installed and this has been updated further by the Anniversary update. On this laptop Scroll function of the Synaptics TouchPad does not work in Edge browser or any of the Apps available on the windows store.
Earlier I had installed driver This enabled its functionality in Edge browser as well as all the apps. However, the touchpad function was not stable. A single click will result into multiple pages opening and therefore, I reinstalled the original Driver i. I wonder why the scroll function is not working in Edge browser and related applications. Can you be able to collect all the Dell Touchpad Firmware as well? I have no way to find the newest firmware for XPS 13 Right now, Im having problem with my touchpad, the firmware I have poorly chosen to flash was not compatible with this touchpad.
Its dead and unusable at present, no matter what drivers I tried to install. Also, under device manager or control panel´┐Żmouse, it was not shown on both of them. If you have access to the newest firmware, please let me know.
Great thanks in advance! This is drivers only, I've no intent to list firmware as it should be system specific and if its not it could brick touchpads its not intended for like I guess you discovered.
I don't have newer firmware than Dell list and Dell don't list any touchpad firmware for this model. Inspiron running on Win10Pro bit. Alps 8. Cypress Touchpad 2.
I have not been able to find a touchpad driver for Dell N The driver installed is Synaptics Scroll function does not work in Edge browser and Windows 10 apps.
I have upgraded to Anniversary update also. Scroll works in IE The 'newest Alps driver' link embedded in the text links to the same non-Alps file, too. Cypress Touchpad ´┐Ż 2. Please let me know if you test on the XPS 13 Lx. Early results on the Lx are looking good! I have multitouch, pinch zoom, etc´┐Ż and the trackpad seems more responsive.
Interesting I had an earlier comment saying it didn't work. Let me know how if it still works well after some extended use. Can confirm that Alps vers 8. Has returned touchpad scroll functionality. Thank you for your Guide, it works great.
I had issues with my Touchpad, sometimes it generates additional characters in the applications or just does not work for a few seconds after changing a window. So far it seems to work without any problems, my Hardware for Reference and the Alps driver I downloaded:. Only today windows update services automatically updated the old Driver with a new one release no. This installation has solved the scroll function of the Touch Pad.
I was facing this difficulty since I upgraded to Windows Earlier scroll function was not working in Edge Browser and any of the the apps offered by Windows 10 although it was working in Opera, Chrome, and also IE Thanks to Synaptics and Windows Autoupdate system for addressing the problem of so many N laptop users.
Thanks for writing to let me know that Windows Update is getting on board with the touchpads. I assume you are using the version build RS2 of Windows That is RS1. RS2 is out, you can use the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool to perform the in place upgrade however it should be rolled out via Windows Update soon. Inspiron Synaptic v Default settings are horrid though. Disable the palm detection before anything else.
I'm successfully using multi-touch gestures 2 and 3 finger gestures , and also edge detection. I've no plan at present, to upgrade it to Windows 10, but if I do ´┐Ż I'll try to remember to report back here. Philip, I just want to say first of all, a big Thank You for the incredible amount of time and expertise you have put into this website.
It has been a big help to me. I'm wondering if you, or anyone else reading this happens to know what make of touchpad was put into the Inspiron ?
Problem Solved! I read your instructions more carefully, got the original Dell driver, extracted it, and found out that it's a Synaptics touchpad.
Thanks again for all your good work. Newer Synaptic versions may also work. Hi Philip, I am running Windows 10 bit on the Inspiron I had tried some of the newer Synaptics drivers and couldn't get any of them to install. After reading your reply, I tried the Synaptics So thanks again, you are the best!
Philip, I have a Dell Inspiron N The update driver Synaptics I attempted to use the latest Synaptics Touchpad driver I cannot see where to find the 64 bit information in the folder files. I am having the same problem finding the 64 bit information in the Synaptics driver files I need this to add to the address of the download location. Can you provide help in locating this information?
I tried the Synaptics ´┐Ż I ended up using the Dell The first two Synaptics drivers caused a complete loss of the Touchpad. Otherwise, I would have had to do a hard reboot.
The Generic Synaptics and the Dell Unfortunately, I cannot remember or find how I came up with the Dell I'll keep looking. It came off the Dell ftp site. I saved all the links but there are over 50 of them. I would have never figured this out on my own.
Thank you for this information! I have a Dell Adamo 13 with W10 Home version 64 bit. I tried synaptics ver. I then installed ver. Much appreciated. Thank you for the post! I hava a Dell Latitude u, which originally came with Windows 7 Pro. When updating to Windows 10 the touchpad started to bad functioning: Driver I've tried the first 17 Alps drivers listed above with the following results: 8.
It seems a little strange even the basic Windows inbuilt driver should give base functionality. I think you might have some hardware fault opposed to an OS fault. It may be worth trying to reseat the touchpad to the motherboard. Hi Philip, thank you for you reply. Once again, the good Doctor has provided me with the cure after Dell's customary failure to do so. It seemed as if I had no choice but to permit the download of software I already have after it became clear it was the only way either of us was going to get what we wanted.
The resulting scan, I was told, "´┐Żmight take a few moments. The British rationale would commonly interpret it as, 'I'll put the kettle on! If I had to put up with the cursor moving when my palm brushes the touchpad when I type, for much longer, I would have done something regrettable, to me most likely, to someone, anyway, I'm sure´┐Ż´┐Ż. These guides are just what the Doctor ordered, you might say?!? Thanks for the wonderful website!
After a windows 10 update, my touchpad driver got rolled back, and I had to scramble to find something functional again. Luckily, with your site, I was able to locate a functional driver. I have a laptop that isn't listed above, so I'd like to share my experience:. Thanks for this wonderful page. I have an Inspiron on Windows 10 bit and unfortunately the Synaptics Dell 11z ´┐Ż tried with both 32bit Anniv and Creat: It has an Elan SmartPad which is a pretty appalling thing but we are where we are.
Basically none of the Dell offerings worked properly or at all in some cases ´┐Ż the Dell "utilities" are also pretty bad ´┐Ż but there is what is more or less an Elan generic driver i. Worked fine by manual install update of the driver and I can configure the Elan Smartpad to do what I wanted which is what I have been doing under XP.
This driver has the familiar Elan tab in settings from which all things can be adjusted ´┐Ż never found a way of doing this with any of the Dell utilities. Philip, please note that it is the 32bit I have tested not the 64bit although I think this should work fine. I want to say everything did not seem to function, generally a word far too often used in every life situation, suggesting all, excluding nothing, is the problem.
You can pick the category that everything can apply to. I never lost hope that I would find some resolve. In a google search I was fortunate to find your web page. Although I have to say I was skeptical to start off with. This driver I have been struggling with is from Synaptics main web page. Synaptics Touchpad ´┐Ż V Followed your instructions, now have very smooth functionality. Finally a step forward. Thanks to you, Dr Philip Yip, I have the resources you have painstakingly put together, which I hope will allow me to take leaps and bounds.
I have been using Windows 10 64bit on my Inspiron N for almost a year. About a month ago the cursor began creeping back to the top after it was scrolled down. I presume that the touchpad driver has been changed. I tried reinstalling various Synaptics touchpad drivers without success in solving this creeping problem.
If anyone has this laptop and is not experiencing a scrolling issue, could they notify me what Synaptics touchpad driver is installed on their maching? XPS Lx ´┐Ż Windows 7. I will continue till I find best fit for me.
I tested It for my vostro and it worked realy well. I'm greatly thankful. It was a relief. The version I tested was Alps 7. I would of thought they versions would have worked. I have updated the guide. I tried many other reviews to solve the problem with touchpad. All this dosn't work. I tried first with version It dosn't work. With Thank you Philip! Drivers versions Versions 8. Version 7. Now I installed version 7.
If this line found, then this driver compatible with device. I would have expected 8. This is not a problem, but sometimes it's convenient to see the scrolling mode for example, normal scrolling or circular. The reason for using Windows 10 version is simple ´┐Ż I use it because this version works without any problems.
And for my laptop there has not been an automatic update to version in the Windows Update Center yet. And I do not want to reinstall fine work OS without a reason.
I did not find anything better in version than the version , which is installed on my PC. Inspiron aka Inspiron 11 series Windows 10 64 bit. Alps calls multi-touch their "glidepoint" technology, which they developed in order to be certified for Windows 8. Therefore, none of the version 8 or version 10 Alps drivers work correctly on any of the Exx00 laptops, nor any of the D, C, X, l, or CS series laptops.
The only Latitude laptops with multi-touch came after ´┐Ż Exxyy with yy greater than The driver recommended by Dell for the E is the latest version 7 driver, v. However, if tap-to-click while typing is an issue, I recommend the driver, v. This leaves cursor movements enabled while typing, but turns tap-to-click OFF after typing, until you do a regular button click. Also recommend you leave Touch Sensitivity right in the middle.
Too high, and IM won't work, too low, and you can get random, unintended taps when the laptop warms up under heavy load. Thx for the resource. I have a Dell Inspiron with W10 Pro version 64 bit.
Install Alps TouchPad ´┐Ż 8. I believe I have the best possible use of the touchpad on my ooold, old Inspiron with Windows 7 32 bit, and I believe others can do the same with 64 bit, including up to Windows I have the two finger scroll, three finger press to open any program of my choice, and customized edge motion and scrolling with pressure control.
I'm not sure the three finger flick works, but I might be missing something. I tried a dozen different drivers on your list above, but could only achieve this with two unlisted drivers. The earlier driver, ver. It has an excellent GUI to customize that feature. Then I installed the generic driver from Synaptics site ´┐Ż ver. Doing it manually, withOUT uninstalling the earlier driver, leaves edge motion intact, even though that part of the GUI disappears.
Don't uninstall the first driver and use the manual method through device driver and "Have Disk" described above. On my Win7 32 bit Home Premium machine, a message popped up saying the driver is unsigned. I simply told it to install anyway, and everything was fine. Other versions of Windows may have to find a tutorial on YouTube explaining how to make Windows swallow unsigned drivers. Hey guys, I'm after circular scrolling a. Seems like win10 still takes over and disables this functionality.
Any help or advice, much appreciated. Pkway posted that that the Synaptics driver I have found that it's more complicated than this. Select 'No delay always on ' in the drop down menu. Once you have installed a driver it will NEVER work correctly until you change a setting in the Dell touchpad utility. You will need to plug in a USB mouse to do this if clicks and taps aren't working yet.
Find the setting for 'Palm rejection' and disable it by un-checking the box. I have tested I've run out of time to systematically test all Synaptics drivers with both these steps. I'm currently using Basic functionality is fine.
Multi-touch does NOT work. Edge scrolling and zoom work which is enough for the moment. Thank you for the nice guide that helped me out of big trouble. Synaptics driver Still much better than nothing. All of what is said by beetooex is correct but I think all these options disappeared with the Windows 10 Creators?
Certainly I have none of them and it seems to be a "global" thing and not just me. The above link offers some way forward if you are brave enough to do the registry setting ´┐Ż or if you still have access to the Synaptic generic ones.
Thanks for creating this guide ´┐Ż very helpful. I recently updated an old Dell Inspiron E bit system, T processor from XP to Windows 10 version and lost my touchpad scrolling capability. I tried a few of the drivers on the list without luck before I searched around and found one that works ´┐Ż Synaptics Touchpad, v. Latitude D 64 bit, Windows 10 version Installed Alps 8. After going to settings, devices, touchpad, advanced, show settings I was greeted with a Dell branded screen where I was able to enable touchpad scrolling.
Lovely job. Thanks for the page! I've successfully installed Synaptics It was a manual install via device manager. Note: The latest Synaptics driver as per today I used the version that has been reported to be ok for Vostro and Vostro by other users.
Thanks again! Problem solved. Hope you don't mind but posted the link for this driver in Ten Forums. Thanks very much again! Glad it helped, I just updated the guide to incorporate guesses for most Latitudes and Precisions listing by date. You can share the driver etc but Ten Forums don't really like me or my guides and banned me when I tried to join to help folk. MY GOD!!! I was using a laptop for almost an year, without knowing that i can use normal gestures and stuff.
I was hating it for that. Couldn't install any drivers at all. Now, with the help of you- i finally did it. Thank you a lot my friend!!! Philip Yip, I first want to say I found a lot of great information on your pages. I was installing Windows 8. So I read how Win 10 would work. I then installed installed Win 10 using that key. Thank you! I would like to share since you seem to be a Dell guy. I have ran into several Dell laptops that the mouse pointer would jump all over when typing. Apparently the touch pads can cause issues as they age.
The touch pad can become so sensitive that the heat from your hands will move the cursor while typing. So I ran across this application that helps tremendously´┐Ż. This will lock the pointer while typing. I though you might add it to your touchpad page.
Thank you very much, I downloaded the driver for my Dell laptop on dell. Now it works. I have never used touchpad with 2 or 3 fingers before.
Sadly problem is recurring after some time. So it's better to have unpacked driver around and learn to go through fix process by keyboard, because:.
TAB just doesn't jump to "extract" button. I think it's worth adding to article since this can be last saviour for people who don't have external mouse around at the moment. I'm trying to figure out which driver to install to re-enable the touchpad. Also, the keyboard occasionally locks out as well. I am only able to use a bluetooth mouse with the system. It sounds like it's disconnected physically. Perhaps the ribbon cable has shaken loose from the motherboard. Does your computer respond to the Touchpad there?
Phillip, I verified the physical connnection as well as the Bios. The touchpad does not respond in either case.
Should I replace the touchpad or keep trying drivers? Drivers make no difference for a device that doesn't exist. You can try to replace it. I am looking for touchpad drivers for Inspiron 15 N Win10 bit.
I have tried Alps 8. I found the way to make it work with any touchpad driver that the machine is supposed to use. First install a driver for the touchpad. When you launch the Touchpad configuration page, you will only see a mouse. Close the page. This is critical because it is the only uninstall that will let you delete all driver files checkbox associated with the hardware 6. Install Touchpad driver 8. Reboot 9. I was able to get my Dell Vostro touchpad working on windows 10 pro 64 by using the drivers I found on this site.
Unfortunately it does not work my Dell Dell latitude It installs the driver but then when the driver config gui is opend to change some settings none of the settings actually work.
When I open "DellTpad. I used "Synaptics Working on bit Windows Dell Precision M running win 10 64bit, followed your suggestion installing Alps- 8. Thanks so much for this site, David Gutman. Touchpad wasn't working. A simple install of Cypress driver v.
Latest Windows 10 compatible touchpad driver with Dell Vostro is Synaptics version This version restored two finger vertical scrolling for me. I recently restored the scroll feature on a Dell Inspiron N by following the instructions using the driver Alps Touchpad ´┐Ż 7. Please help! Tried the "Tested" 8. Normal trackpad driver works with out the extra functionality. Need help. Upgraded to Windows 10 driver 8. Many thanks, big time! This fixed my touchpad gestures issue on a Dell XPS 13 , that hadn't worked for months.
Thanks from Alwar Rajasthan´┐Żi wasted many hours for dell touchpad´┐ŻBut after reading this i installed in just 10 miniutes´┐Ż. Thank you!!! And shame on Dell. Followed your instructions to the letter and it worked like a charm. Any driver suggestion for Latitude Windows 10 says "Your PC has a precision touchpad". Tried the precision Alps 8. Tried several other drivers without any good luck.
That system has an 8th generation Intel Processor and should have a Precision Touchpad. Thanks for your reply philipyip. My touchpad is working, but the single finger edge scrolling cannot be enabled any way, but it does work on Windows 7 and Ubuntu, just that the same driver isn't working on Windows It turns out the Dell driver is the correct one, but the installer won't unpack it.
Now I can turn my TouchPad on and off, so I can type without errors! Thank God , I saw your post! Tried working your instructions and boooommm. I got y gestures back on Inspiron I really really appreciate you! God bless You. Miss the single finger scrolling but "It's alive! I have dell inspiron 15 , I have tried using snyanptic I installed the driver without issues on my Dell Inspiron It's working fine, I'm typing this from that very computer.
Hi, I am facing issue after upgrade my Dell E to Win Alps Touchpad ´┐Ż Just force-installed Alps driver 8. Works great! My goal was to disable the touchpad when a USB mouse is installed, and I found nothing that worked until I tried your process. Hey, first thank you. I have been trying to make my touchpad work correctly for months. Windows 10 Home 64 bits.
That one works like a charm. Even without it, you have every multitouch gestures available, with the default configuration of Windows Hi, in the end when I complete installation by providing path and all, the system gets restated but the touchpad wont work.
The driver details gets changed. So I go for automatic update afterwards and the driver gets updated to default version. Touchpad is still died. I am fade up of this. Strugling since last year. Put me down as a "no-go". Followed the instructions exactly for my Dell Vostro and the "Dell" driver linked here shows up as a "Lenovo". It installs, I have the Synaptic icon on the taskbar, but everything is grayed out.
No options under "Touchpad" in settings. Oh well. Dell d with windows 10 x64 ´┐Ż tried this: Alps Touchpad ´┐Ż
